Two primary types of footprints dominate the site. The larger, circular depressions belong to Cetiosaurus, a herbivorous sauropod often called “the whale lizard” due to its enormous size. This creature could reach up to 16 meters in length and roamed in search of lush vegetation. In contrast, smaller, three-toed prints are linked to Megalosaurus, a fierce bipedal predator measuring about 9 meters long, known for its sharp teeth and hunting prowess.

These tracks stretch up to 150 meters in some areas, representing remarkable preservation over millions of years. Their size and spacing hint at the speed, movement, and potentially even the social behavior of the creatures that made them. Some parallel tracks suggest group travel, raising intriguing questions about whether these dinosaurs migrated or traversed shared pathways.

“This is one of the most impressive track sites I’ve ever seen,” said Professor Kirsty Edgar of the University of Birmingham.
